BEAUFORT POLICE DEPARTMENT ATTAINS LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCREDITATION

This past Saturday Beaufort Police Chief, Jeff Dowling, and some of his officers attended a conference in Montreal, Canada where the department was awarded accreditation through CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies). During the process all areas of the department were scrutinized and inspected to determine if the department’s policies, standards, and performance were in line with recognized best practices and standards. The final step was an “On-Site” inspection which took place in March where CALEA assessors came to the department to see operations first hand and solicit public input on the department’s performance. The Beaufort Police Department is the seventeenth municipal agency in South Carolina to obtain this status. The department will conduct a formal ceremony on August 24th to celebrate the achievement.
