The Department is sad to announce that Hunter has
officially retired. He has earned a well-deserved rest after
countless tracks, criminal apprehensions and narcotics cases. We are
currently researching new canines and hope to have a new one out on
the street soon.

We are excited about the
groundbreaking of our municipal center located at the corner of
Boundary Street and Ribaut Road. This will allow us to serve
the citizens and guests of Beaufort more efficiently.

qualified professionals for patrolman and reserve officer
positions.

Movie Club--Each summer the
department coordinates the Kids Movie Club. A popular film is
shown, and information is provided to participants on important
events affecting our kids. Click here

Student Police Academy--This
six-week training for high school juniors and seniors has been
offered by the police department for the past eleven years.
Presentations are made that involve search and seizure, laws of
arrests, traffic, internet crime, and communications just to name a
few. The student police academy is not only used as an education
tool but also a recruitment tool. Although applicants for patrol
officers must be 21 years of age, there are other areas that one can
enter into at 18, such as records or communications. The class
being conducted at this time will graduate on May 10, 2006 with
sixty students.

Reserve Program--Our
department is host to a very active reserve program. Reserve
officers are volunteers, who serve their community by assisting our
