Our Fleet

The Beaufort City Police Department has a fleet of over fifty vehicles. These include automobiles, trucks, vans, motorcycles, bicycles, utility trailers and a boat. Various makes and models such as Ford, Dodge, Jeep and Kawasaki are in use. The Michigan State Police Vehicles tests indicate that Ford still seems to be the Police Car of choice. The Crown Victoria is purchased on state contract allowing the City to benefit a substantial savings. The cars are leased through Ford Motor Credit for three years, they are then purchased at the end of the lease for $1.00. The Crown Victoria is equipped with the Police/Taxi Package. This package includes heavy-duty equipment such as brakes, suspension, cooling, electrical and drive train.

The Beaufort City Police Department enjoys a take-home car program. This program has proven to be an asset for citizens as well as officers. Assigned cars have lower maintenance costs, which bring a higher resale value after the car is taken out of service. Officer assigned cars give the city a higher visibility of Police presence. Officers are responsible for the cleaning of the cars and scheduling of maintenance. Maintenance is handled through First Vehicle Services located on Old Shanklin Road. Warranty work is performed at O. C. Welch Ford in Beaufort.
